Summary

The Line Engineer is responsible for improving equipment reliability, production performance, and process efficiency in a beverage manufacturing environment. This role supports line performance, engineering design, equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives while upholding the highest standards of food safety (GMP, SQF), quality, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or beverage production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and optimize production output (throughput, OEE, downtime, scrap rates).
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve recurring problems.
  • Ensure the line is capable of meeting production targets safely and efficiently.
  • Define and refine process parameters (temperatures, pressures, speeds, tolerances).
  • Support changeovers and ensure recipes/programs are properly configured.
  • Analyze process bottlenecks and propose engineering solutions.
  • All equipment issues, improvement ideas, or parameter recommendations must be logged in MaintainX.
  • Provide technical expertise to maintenance teams during breakdowns.
  • Specify upgrades, modifications, and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Plan and schedule PM activities during production downtime windows.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or DMAIC tools to reduce waste and process variation.
  • Implement automation or process control improvements.
  • Train operators and technicians on proper machine operation.
  • Develop SOPs, visual aids, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Act as a technical bridge between operators, supervisors, and engineering/maintenance teams.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (typically 1 week per month).
  • Be available after hours for urgent production or maintenance issues.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support and escalate to maintenance or OEM as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on mechanical experience operating and troubleshooting production equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Proficiency in PLC/VFD programming, troubleshooting, and advanced diagnostics.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MES systems (PLEX, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (SolidWorks or other CAD tools a plus).
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, and process flow documents.
  • Capable of managing technical documentation and maintaining equipment records in MaintainX.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required: safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe boots.
